My Journey & The Foundation of HTR
HTR didn’t begin as a business plan.
It emerged over time — through experience, observation, and a gradual shift in how I understood life, wellbeing, and people.
Looking back, the past four years feel like a form of education.
Not traditional, but lived.
My life coaching qualification — which I’m now completing — is what I describe as the “cherry on top.”
It formalises what was already built through real-world experience.
Where It Started: The Psychiatric Ward
My journey began working as an Occupational Therapy Assistant on a psychiatric ward.
I supported individuals experiencing severe mental health challenges — many of whom had been admitted for their own safety or the safety of others.
The role focused on creating and facilitating therapeutic activities:
creative sessions
cooking groups
exercise and gym programmes
gardening
and simple, structured social interaction
During this time, I also qualified as a personal trainer to better support physical wellbeing within that environment.
But more importantly, this is where something foundational began.
By observing conversations — between patients, staff, and multidisciplinary teams — I noticed recurring themes.
No matter the background or diagnosis, people were coming back to the same core areas of life:
what they lacked, what they wanted, what they were struggling with, and what mattered to them.
This became the origin of what is now the nine topics of HTR.
Taking It Further: NHS Wellbeing Coaching
I then moved into the NHS as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Coach, working across GP surgeries.
The work was broad and unpredictable.
Every person brought something different — mental health challenges, lifestyle changes, social issues, practical barriers.
To stay grounded and effective, I used the nine topics as a framework.
They allowed me to:
build genuine connection with clients
find shared ground quickly
maintain a clear coaching structure
and avoid burnout in a high-demand environment
Most importantly, they reinforced a core principle:
My role isn’t to fix people — it’s to support them in finding their own solutions.
Real-World Application: Life Beyond Clinical Settings
After the NHS, I stepped into a very different space — working as a gardener across the Southwest.
This meant being outdoors every day, in all conditions, and interacting with people in everyday environments — often in social settings.
What began as casual conversation naturally became something deeper.
I found myself bringing the same awareness and approach into these interactions:
talking about life, wellbeing, habits, environment, and mindset — without forcing it.
During this time, I also began sharing a simple mantra that guided me:
This too shall pass
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast
Progress first, perfection last
HTR began to take shape more clearly during this period — moving from idea to expression.
Integration: Where Everything Comes Together
More recently, I’ve been based in one location — maintaining the grounds of a former country house.
This has allowed for consistency, deeper relationships, and more meaningful conversations over time.
At the same time, I’ve been completing my life coaching qualification — bringing professional structure to everything I’ve already been practicing.
Now, my work naturally sits at the intersection of:
environment
conversation
wellbeing
and lived experience
The Personal Shift
Alongside all of this, there has been a significant personal transformation.
Earlier in my life, things were unstable:
struggles with drugs and alcohol
poor mental health
lack of direction and consistency
Over time, through applying the same principles I now share, that changed.
My life became more grounded, more stable, and more intentional.
That shift is a core part of HTR.
Not as a claim of perfection — but as lived evidence that change is possible.
What HTR Is
HTR is the result of this entire journey.
It’s:
a framework
a philosophy
and a practical way of approaching life and wellbeing
It’s built on real experience — across clinical settings, everyday environments, and personal transformation.
The coaching I offer now reflects that.
The qualification supports it.
The experience grounds it.
The system brings it together.
Why It Matters
HTR exists to provide something simple, structured, and real.
A way to:
understand where you are
identify what matters
and move forward — at your own pace
Because ultimately, the work isn’t mine.
It’s yours.
